This job consists of a new seven story middle/high school with a parking garage and a basement area. The total job is approximately 237,223 GSF. The project is designed for a maximum enrollment of 1,500 students and 90 faculty/staff members. Pedestrian and vehicular access to the site is provided via SW 17 road which has been identified as the principal Frontage. Required parking is provided on five levels, one level of subterranean parking and four levels above grade, which will be lined by habitable space to shield parking and service functions from public view. The building will be a 7 Story educational facility with classrooms and specialty rooms (Computer Labs, Science Labs, Offices), assembly spaces, a cafeteria with a full a kitchen and terrace overlooking Miami, a gymnasium, bathrooms and gym lockers, a parking garage, administrative areas and interior corridors. The building is essentially one structure, but the design team made it unique in a way that encompasses two standalone buildings which join on the 4th floor and continue that trend up above. In addition to the new school mentioned above, there will be several off-site improvements to allow parents/teachers easy access in/out of the school zone and eliminate backed up traffic along SW 15th Rd, SW 2nd Ct & SW 17th Rd. Due to the location of the site and the proximity to the ocean, several temporary and permanent wells have been placed for water control, along with a dewatering plan for the underground basement’s excavation and large mat footings. The site encompassing Mater Brickell Academy was previously vacant land.
